In the series ‘Souvenirs’ I look at the interaction between paintings and their environment by means of miniatures (on average +/- 6 x 8 cm). The images bring memories into the present but their meaning is in turn influenced by where they are at any given moment.
The size of the pieces becomes a medium in and of itself. Whether they are painted directly on the wall and become part of an architectural whole, whether they are framed by white space on a canvas and become the keyhole into an unknown location or whether they are painted on paper and thus portable through many places, their relationship to space (monumental, unknown or changeable) is at the heart.
